Skills Canada NWT Hosts Successful 2021 Territorial Competition
Skills Canada Northwest Territories (NWT) recently hosted its annual Territorial Competition on May 4th and 5th, the biggest skilled trade and technology competition in the Northwest Territories. The event saw over 40 competitors from all across the region compete in a dozen different categories, from Automobile Technology to Hairstyling to Cabinetmaking.
The competition was a great success, with top placing competitors advancing to the Skills Canada National Competition in May 2023. It was made possible by the support of volunteers, sponsors, and partners who provided technical expertise and mentorship for competitors.

The competition featured a variety of challenges that tested students' abilities across multiple trades and technologies. Competitors had to complete tasks related to their chosen field of study within a given time frame while being judged on accuracy, safety procedures, quality, techniques used, neatness of work area among other criteria.
"We are grateful for all those who contributed to making this year's Territorial Competition such a success," said Blake Moulton, Executive Director at Skills Canada NWT. "We thank our sponsors for their ongoing support as well as our volunteers who worked tirelessly throughout the entire event."

The hard work put forth by all participants was evident throughout the two days of competition as they were faced with difficult tasks that tested them both mentally and physically. In addition to competing in their respective fields, students also had the opportunity to network with industry professionals and learn more about potential career paths within various trades or technologies.

These top placers will now advance to compete at the national level later this summer where they will take part in even more challenging competitions against some of Canada's best young skilled trade and technology professionals from coast-to-coast-to-coast!
