Skills Canada NWT - The Organization

Skills Canada Northwest Territories was formed in 1998 through an Human Resources Development Canada initiative to promote trades and technologies throughout Canada via Territorial/Provincial, National and World Skills Competitions. In 1999, Skills Canada NWT became Skills Canada NWT/NU when Nunavut became a separate territory. In September 2005, Nunavut opened its own office in Iqaluit and the NWT organization once again Skills Canada NWT.

Today, Skills Canada NWT is staffed with an Executive Director, an Event Coordinator and an Administrative Assistant who are responsible to a dedicated Board of Directors that includes industry, education and government representatives.

Financially, Skills Canada is supported by the federal and territorial governments and industry through program and event sponsorship and, to a lesser extent, through event registration fees.

Skills Canada NWT is one of three territorial and ten provincial Skills Canada organizations dedicated to promoting careers in skilled trades and technologies.

Skills Canada NWT is associated nationally with Skills/Comp├ętences Canada and internationally with the World Skills Organization.
