Skills Canada NWT is a charitable organization governed by a board of up to twelve directors from industry, education, and government.
The organization became incorporated as a society in January of 1999. Until 2000, The Status of Women Council for the NWT had administered the contract for Skills Canada NWT and provided office space for the Executive Director. Since then, we have shared space with the NWT Construction Association, then moved to an office space in Aurora College's “Learning on Franklin” building (a storefront school), then more recently to the Nunasi Building and on to the Kimberlite Career and Technical Centre in the spring of 2006. We expect to stay in the KCTC for the next while.
Skills Canada NWT has come a long way in the NWT; it has been no small task to promote the ideas of Skills Canada, to increase the numbers of competitors in the north, and to achieve considerable success at national competitions. Thanks to the work of the Board and other stakeholders, Skills Canada NWT now has a strong foundation on which to stand for the continued development of the organization.
